7th Annual Beach Safety Day

Program Information
This camping weekend is designed for Boy and Girl Scout Troops and their leaders to give Scouts a very practical orientation to beach safety. The program will provide hands-on training, calisthenics with the lifeguards, simulated training rescues in the surf, opportunities to learn about ocean hazards, rip currents, ocean rescue, and public service in the field of public safety and ocean life guarding from members of the Dewey Beach Patrol under the direction of Captain Todd Fritchman.

  

Campsite:
Each campsite will hold 4 – 5 medium size tents
Family camping is encouraged by parents who wish to attend
 

Food:
Troop will plan food for the weekend
Cost is $20 per individual

 

Arrival:
Check-in after 3 pm on Friday.  For individual scouts, I will arrange rides with families.  Departure for trip will vary depending on which family you will travel with to the outing.

1:30 Free time at beach

4:00 Return to campsite (each troop make its plans for the evening)

This program is made possible by the hard work and dedication of Carl & Susan Johnson working with Dr. Peter Hartsock, a veteran lifeguard for over 30 years and scientist at NIH, in memory of their son Michael Johnson.  Michael an Eagle Scout with Troop 495 lost his life August 23, 1998 in a drowning accident at Rehoboth Beach
